JV Lions stay undefeated with shutout over Clyde

The JV Lions defeated the visiting Clyde freshman team, 56-0, last Thursday to keep a perfect 5-0 season record.

The JV is open this week, but will be back in action next week hosting the Stamford Bulldogs. The game will follow the eighth grade matchup against Stamford.

The JV had little trouble against the visiting Clyde team, scoring almost at will.

7th grade wins, 8th grade ties

The Albany Cubs traveled to Peaster last Thursday, with the eighth grade playing to a 22-22 tie and the seventh grade bringing home a 26-8 win.

Both teams are open this week but will return to the gridiron next Thursday to host Stamford starting at 4:30 p.m. with the seventh grade. The eighth grade game will follow at approximately 5:30 p.m. and the JV will take the field at about 6:45 p.m.

Moran Bulldogs to take on Chillicothe

Moran will host both the Chillicothe junior high football team and the varsity for homecoming games at Bulldog Field this Friday, Oct. 4.

The junior high Bulldogs are scheduled to take the field first at 5:30 p.m.

The varsity follows at 7:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs are 3-1 under new head coach John Hughes and are currently ranked 30th in Division 2 1A by sixmanfootball.com.

The Eagles are 2-2 after losing to Throckmorton 22-28 last Friday night.

The Bulldogs had a bye last week after falling to Rotan 19-25 on Sept. 20.

MHS girls to play Woodson this Saturday

The 1A Lady Bulldogs faced 2A teams in District 6 competition last week and fell to both of the larger schools in three sets.

Hawley came to Moran and took back a 25-6, 25-11, 13-25 win on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The Lady Bulldogs contended with the Lady Lions in Albany on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 10:00 a.m. and dropped to 7-8 on the season after losing 15-25, 7-25, 15-25.

“We are still working on our coverage behind the block,” said coach Jo Hise. 

However, the coach is able to see her team making headway.

Moran girls start district play

Moran volleyball teams lost district matches last week to girls from Strawn and Newcastle.

Moran traveled to Strawn on Tuesday, Sept. 17 for three matches.

The junior high Lady Bulldogs lost to Strawn 25-15, 18-25, 8-15.

“They played well for their first game,” said girls head coach Jo Hise. “I am very proud of how they worked together.”

Moran put together a second team to take on the Lady Hounds’ JV squad.

Strawn won the match 25-19, 25-6.

“Baylee Orsak led our serving in both of those sets,” said Hise.

Bulldogs suffer first loss of season

The Bulldogs suffered their first defeat of the season last Friday, Sept. 20, falling to 3-1 on the season after losing 19-25 to the Rotan Yellowhammers.

“We lost last week, but I was proud of the guys and how they fought through some major adversity,” said head coach John Hughes. 

Moran has nine players on the roster, so after two of Moran’s team members were injured during the game, the Bulldogs were down to only seven.

Lions to host Peaster for homecoming

Despite racking up over 140 yards more in offense, the Lions were plagued by turnovers last Friday allowing the visiting Hawley Bearcats to slip by them 22-20 in a non-district contest.

Albany, now 2-2 on the season, hopes to turn around their mistakes when they host Peaster on Friday before a homecoming crowd at Robert Nail Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Playing in their first varsity season, the Greyhounds are also 2-2 for the season.

AHS girls continue first round of district

The varsity Lady Lions suffered a district loss to Hawley on Saturday, but still hold a 2-1 mark in the first round of district action.

The Lady Lions traveled to Coleman on Tuesday for a non-district game, bringing home a 27-25, 25-18, 25-20, win. Details will be reported next week.

The District 6-2A race will continue on Saturday, with the Moran Lady Bulldogs coming to call. Game time is set for 10:00 a.m.

Jr. high football teams record wins

Both junior high football teams got back in the win column last week in Hawley, improving to 2-1 for the season.

The Cubs will travel to Peaster on Thursday (today) for games starting at 4:30 p.m. for the seventh grade. The eighth grade game will follow at about 5:45 p.m.

The seventh grade Cubs shut out Hawley 20-0 last week.

Dalton Richards scored all three touchdowns for the Cubs, the first on a 31-yard run that was followed by the two-point run by Ashton Bailey.

JV beats Hawley to stay undefeated

The JV Lions edged out the Hawley Bearcats last Thursday, 16-14, to remain undefeated for the year with a 4-0 record.

The JV will host Clyde’s JV this Thursday (today) at 6:30 p.m. in Robert Nail Stadium.

The Lions’ first tally against Hawley last week came on a 16-yard run by Cole Chapman. Chapman hit Barrett Beal with the two-point pass.

The Lions’ second score came late in the fourth quarter after being down 14-8 with less than three minutes left on the clock.
