Last week the Lady Bulldogs’ cross country team qualified for regional.

“I am super excited for this group of young ladies,” said coach Jo Hise. “They are the first Moran team that I am aware of to advance to regional. They have come so far since the beginning of the season and are even more confident in themselves.”

Hise added that “they are a joy to coach.”

Moran sent 10 runners to the District 20 cross country meet in Eula on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Six girls competed on the varsity team and placed third with 62 points behind Eula (30 points) and Baird (40 points).

Two Lady Bulldogs were individual medalists. Dariann Hawley was fifth with a time of 14:12, and Johnnie Hise came in a few seconds later at 14:28 for seventh place.

One Bulldog ran in the boys varsity section and three girls ran in the junior varsity girls division, but Moran did not have enough runners to qualify as a team in either of those divisions.

The top three varsity teams and the top 10 varsity runners in both the boys and girls divisions at the district meet qualified to advance to regional.

The Region III-1A Cross Country Championships will be hosted by The University of Texas at Arlington and will take place at the Jesse Owens Memorial Complex and adjacent Hulcy Fields on Monday, Oct. 28. The address is 9191 South Polk Street, Dallas TX 75232.

The 1A girls race is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

The top four teams at the regional meet as well as the top 10 individuals who are not already on one of those teams will qualify for the state meet in Round Rock on Nov. 9.
