By Donnie A. Lucas The Lady Lions volleyball team ended the first round of district action last week with a 5-1 record, sitting firmly in second place behind Hawley at the halfway point.

By Melinda L. Lucas Dozens of runners were on the Albany Golf Course last week for an FCA-sponsored cross country event that saw three local athletes earn medals by placing in the top 10.

By Donnie A. Lucas The junior high volleyball teams were busy over the weekend with tournament games in Graham. The seventh grade played in Newcastle on Tuesday, while the 8A girls played in Strawn. Results from those games were not available at press time but will be printed next week.

By Kathy Thomson Moran’s varsity and junior high volleyball teams both played last week, with the middle school girls falling to Abilene Christian in two sets, while the Lady Bulldogs and Woodson battled back and forth for five sets before the Cowgirls tied down the win.

By Donnie A. Lucas A homecoming crowd at Robert Nail Stadium was on hand to watch the Lions hand the visiting Peaster Greyhounds a 41-0 loss last Friday along with the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen.

By Donnie A. Lucas The Lady Lion volleyball team added two more victories last week with a non-district match in Coleman, returning home Saturday to host Moran. Albany also played Woodson here on Tuesday, picking up another district win 25-29, 25-12, 25-7.

By Donnie A. Lucas The junior high volleyball teams played a set of games on Sept. 24, and the two A teams also played in the Hawley Tournament on Saturday with mixed results. The 8A team was the only squad to play on Tuesday, hosting Woodson.

By Donnie A. Lucas The JV Lions defeated the visiting Clyde freshman team, 56-0, last Thursday to keep a perfect 5-0 season record. The JV is open this week, but will be back in action next week hosting the Stamford Bulldogs. The game will follow the eighth grade matchup against Stamford.

By Donnie A. Lucas The Albany Cubs traveled to Peaster last Thursday, with the eighth grade playing to a 22-22 tie and the seventh grade bringing home a 26-8 win.
