“The girls adjusted well to the new rotation we ran against Woodson, improving each set,” coach M.J. Reneau said. “Our serving was great, led by Cydney Nelson with 23 attempts.”

The coach said that the team had 25 kills in the match.

“I am so proud of the way the girls stay focused and play each point like it’s the last,” she said.

The varsity traveled to Ranger on Saturday to complete the first round, winning 25-20, 25-7, 25-10.

“The girls served well against Ranger, recording a total of 17 aces,” the coach said. “We had to push the game back to 4:00 p.m. because of the SAT test that morning. I am so proud that our girls are committed to their grades and to still be able to play well in a district game.”

The coach said the team was focused during each set.

“Our offense was strong through all three games,” Reneau said. “Our chemistry on the court continues to improve with each match, and I am excited to see what the girls do in the second half of district.”

Albany’s JV teams were both open last week since Ranger and Woodson were unable to put a JV team on the court.

The JV girls were expected to compete again on Tuesday in Strawn, and they will also play Newcastle and Hawley in the upcoming week.
