Jr. high girls play in Graham tournament

The junior high volleyball teams were busy over the weekend with tournament games in Graham.

The seventh grade played in Newcastle on Tuesday, while the 8A girls played in Strawn. Results from those games were not available at press time but will be printed next week.

Three of the junior high teams will travel to Colorado City next Monday, Oct. 14. The seventh grade will play at 5:00 p.m., while the 8B team will also play at 5:00 p.m. in a second gym. The 8A team will play at 6:00 p.m.

Last Week’s Games

The 8A team defeated Woodson on Oct. 1 in Albany, 25-6, 25-8.

“The girls worked hard and played great offense,” coach Dakota Fowler said. “They played well together as a team.”

Callan Edgar had five consecutive serves and five assists, while Robin Lucas served up seven straight and had a kill.

Kiana Roberson led at the serve line with nine straight, including an ace and five kills.

The 8A girls won one out of three games at the Graham tournament last Saturday.

Albany fell to Bridgeport 18-25, 17-25 in the first round. Lucas had three consecutive serves and two kills, while Roberson had three in a row.

The team won in three games over Iowa Park, 25-12, 20-25, 25-20. Lucas served eight in a row, followed by Braylyn Abbate with five serves and two kills. Ashlyn Holson scored on six straight serves and had three kills, along with Roberson’s nine in a row and three kills.

The 8A girls lost to Graham in the third game 22-25, 25-14, 25-17. Edgar had four assists and Roberson recorded six kills.

The 8B team played four rounds at the tourney, losing all four.

The B team fell to Iowa Park 28-26, 5-25, 20-25. Ashey Sanchez scored on six serves in a row.

Albany lost in the second round 12-25, 8-15 to McNeil. Sidney Russell scored on seven in a row.

The Lady Cubs lost to Bridgeport in the third game 18-25, 13-25. Emily Schedule served five in a row.

The 8B lost to Graham in the final round 19-25, 13-25.

The seventh grade girls lost both of their games in Graham, opening with a loss to Bridgeport 10-25, 10-25.

McNeil won the second match 12-25, 9-25.

“It was a very competitive tournament,” coach Ginger Norton said. “The girls played hard and are improving. They are learning new rotations and making good transitions.”

Scoring on serves were Caroline Holson 2, Avery Everitt 2, Jalea Bowman 2, and Kenzie Neve 1.
