Hill, Roberson medal again at state meet

Albany athletes had an upand-down day Friday, May 3 at the Class 2A state track meet, but the ups were way up. Seniors Adam Hill (300 hurdles) and Kiana Roberson (discus) both won gold medals, while Hill also got silver in the shot put, and Luke Marshall (pole vault) just missed adding a track medal to the golf bronze he earned earlier in the week.

Lions move into area baseball playoff May 10-11

Eldorado in area series The Albany Lions took a successful first step in the Class 2A baseball playoffs last week, sweeping Coleman in a bi-district series. The 10th-ranked Lions (172) carry a nine-game winning streak into the area round against District 5-2A champion Eldorado, which had bye through the first round.

Albany’s Red Thunder softball team is sponsoring an 8U softball tournament May 17-18 at Webb Park, according to Ragan Riley, organizer. As of Tuesday afternoon, the tournament was already full, and no more entries were being accepted, Riley said.

Albany Little League’s regular season will last just a little longer thanks to a pair of rainy days last week. Little League president Paul Hamilton said games scheduled for Thursday, May 2 and Friday, May 3 will be made up next week.

Nine Albany tennis players made their bids to qualify for the Class 2A state tournament this week, competing Wednesday- Thursday, May 8-9 at the Region II-2A tournament at Richland Tennis Center in North Richland Hills. No results were available at press time.

A top-two finish at the regional tournament will earn the duo a berth in the Class 1A state tournament, scheduled for Thursday-Friday, May 16-17 at Blossom Tennis Center in San Antonio.

Powder Puff game slated Sunday

Senior and freshman girls will square off against the junior and sophomore girls in this year’s powder puff football game sponsored by the Feed Store. The game will be played at Robert Nail Memorial Stadium at 2:00 p.m.
