Base The Albany Lions put themselves back in the title hunt in the District 8-2A baseball race with a pair of home victories against Cisco and Hawley. The Lions (10-2 overall, 4-2 district) enter their Friday,April 12gameagainstAnsontiedwith HawleyagamebackofStamford for the district lead.

The Albany Lady Lions softball team rode a fast start to a 9-3 win over Baird on Friday, April 5 in their second outing since resuming play. The Lady Lions were rained out Tuesday, April 9 in their game at Abilene TLCA.

Weather struck once again at a track meet involving Albany teams with the junior high district meet cut short Monday, April 8 at Hamlin. At least one event was left unfinished in each division.

The Moran track team wrapped up its season Monday,April8,atthearea meet between District 131A and 14-1A at May. The boys 400 relay of Danny O’Keefe, Garrett Hamilton, Ellis Hise, and Ethan Boykin was Moran’s only entry at the meet.

The Albany tennis team claimed three first-place finishes and a second from five doubles entries Wednesday, April 3 at the Vernon tournament. The Lion netters return to the courts Thursday, April 11 (today) at the Abilene Christian tournament atRoseParkTennisCenter.

The Albany Lions and Lady Lions actually had a dry day for a track meet last week, although gusty wind was a factor. Albany hosted athletes from 13 schools on Friday, March 29 for the Roaring Lion Relays.

Tuesday in 12-4 outcome The Albany Lions settled for another split in the second week of District 8-2A baseball action, defeating Haskell by run rule and dropping another close game to district leader Stamford. The Lions (9-2 overall, 3-2 district) hosted Cisco on Tuesday, April 2, winning 12-4 in their only game this week.

The Albany Lions finished second in the District 10-2A golf tournament, which concluded a two-day run Tuesday, April 2 at ShadyOaksGolfCourse,to earn a return ticket to the Region II-2A tournament. TheLionswilltaketheir shot at a third consecutive trip to state Monday-Tuesday, April 15-16 at Old Brickyard Golf Course in Ferris.
