The schedule for the final weekend of the Big Country Youth Basketball Association has seen some changes. Girls games will now be played at Albany starting at 9:00 a.m.

Lions claim spots on 2A-3A, Super teams

Six Albany Lions football players and head coach Denney Faith were recognized by the Abilene Reporter-News with inclusion on the All-Big Country Class 2A-3A and Super Team. Faith, who was named Coach of the Year for both 2A-3A and the Super Team, guided the Lions to their second consecutive Class 2A Division II state championship and the program’s fourth state title in the 2023 season.Albany finished 16-0 for the first time in school history.

Albany High School ranked fourth in Class 2A in the mid-year Lone Star Cup standings, released lastweekbytheUniversity Interscholastic League. Albanyearned22points in the fall semester behind Tolar, Falls City, and Timpson.

Little Dribbler games to begin Feb. 10

The Albany Little Dribblers Association will have four girls and four boys teams for its 2024 season, according to organizer Joe Tidwell. The league offers four weeks of competition for children in second through fourth grades.

Lions win 2, lose by 1 to Cisco

The Albany Lions were unbeaten in the District 10-2A boys basketball race with wins over Stamford and Anson last week, but ended up in a threeway tie after a loss to Cisco on Tuesday night in the local gym. The Lions (now 8-2 overall, 4-1 district) were in first place enteringTuesday’sgame,which ended in a heartbreaking 46-47 loss.
