Egg hunt set this Saturday
The chance to hunt for eggs by the basketful should make for a fun Saturday for local children. With a new early afternoon time, members of the Albany VolunteerFireDepartmentwill host their annual Easter egg hunt at 1:00 p.m.
New retirement plan approved
SCHD directors move to TCDRS A lengthy discussion and then a decision regarding the employees’retirementprogram was the main topic at Monday’s meeting of the Shackelford County Hospital District’s board of directors. Arepresentative of the Texas CountyandDistrictRetirement System had presented a couple of plan options at the February meeting, but the directors stopped short of approving the proposal until they had more feedback from district employees.
Band earns I in sight reading
The Ragin’Red Band earned a Division II rating in concert and a Division I in sight reading on Tuesday, narrowly missing a third consecutive Sweepstakes Award. “The kids played well, but we were after the big schools this year instead of playing before them, which may have made a little difference,” director William Vaughan said.
$ 250,000 grant to bump up SO salaries
Shackelford County judge John Viertel announced to commissioners at their March 25 meeting that $250,000 in funding from the state’s Rural Sheriff’s Department Salary Assistance Grant Programhadbeenreceived and was being placed in a separate account for proper distribution and documentation.
Turkey numbers expected to be low
Shackelford County hunters can expect another subpar spring turkey season. “The numbers are way down,” game warden Jacob Mort said.
Rain delays softball opening

Moran athletes compete at May
Moran high school athletes competed Friday, March 22 at the May track meet. The varsity boys scored four points with JV girls scoring two and JV boys one.
Game Night set March 28
Moran FFA stood out Monday, March 25 at the Agriculture Engineering CDE in Abilene with an all-girl team competing in welding. The quartet of Kielar Carr,RayniVinson,Bradee Stautzenberger, and Jayla Bussell have been working under the tutelage of teacher Robert Stanley.
