Students to compete at district UIL

April 3 in Anson

Over 20 Albany High School students will travel to Anson on Wednesday, April 3 to compete in the District 10-2A UIL Academic Meet. The top three places in individual events will advance to the regional meet, while the top team in the team events moves on to the next level.

A recent change in the UIL rules allows up to six contestants from each school to compete in the events where an objective written test is administered, while the writing and speaking events that are graded by a group of judges are still limited to a maximum of three entries for each event.

“We have gained a few kids this year because we can now enter six people in some of the events,” UIL coordinator Rick Davis said. “The team events can have six contestants, but only the top four scores are used for the placing of teams.”

Students on a winning team and the top three individual scorers will advance to the regional meet.

The Region 2-2A meet is set for April 26-27 at Grayson College in Denison. Students placing in the top three or those on the top team at regionals will advance to the State UIL Meet in Austin on May 13-15.

“We don’t have all the contests covered, but there is a large group going to the district meet next week,” Davis said. “The kids have been really busy with all the spring sports and other activities, but I think they will make a good showing.”

A total of 21 students are entered in the 14 various contests, with some entered in up to five events as follows:
