Lions Roar staff wins 19th straight Star Award

The staff of the Lions Roar, the student newspaper forAlbany High School, won a 19th consecutive Star Award, as well as a record four Tops in Texas Awards during the annual Interscholastic League Press Conference (ILPC) in Austin last weekend. The newspaper was awarded a Silver Star as an overall evaluation of the publication, in a contest that includes other school papersrangingfrommiddle school to Class 6A.

On April 28 Trinity Episcopal Church will celebrate the 114th anniversary of its recognition as an established, official congregation. Even though there was a small congregation of Episcopalians in Albany in the early 1870s, the church was not officially recognized until 1910.

Volunteers to help at BRBR orchard

Local supporters of Ben Richey Boys Ranch are making plans for a workday to install irrigation equipment for the facility’s orchard. OrganizerAliciaBurton said the group has decided to plant a fall garden this year instead of the usual spring and summer garden, but volunteers will work on the orchard in the next week or two.
