TheAlbany Junior High tennis program conducted intrasquad play last week in preparation for its district tournament. This week, however, has seen a series of obstacles.

Lack of experience will not be a factor for the Albany Lions golf team at the Class 2A state tournament. The Lions will make their third consecutive state appearance when they tee it up Monday-Tuesday, April 29-30 at Lions Municipal GolfCourseinAustin.Albany finished fifth at state in 2022 and third in 2023.
The Albany Lions and Lady Lions withstood the competition and the elements to qualify three individuals and a relay team for seven state berths at the Region II-2A track meet. The Class 2A state meet will be held Friday, May 3 at Myers Stadium in Austin.
The Albany tennis program claimed the boys, girls, and overall team titles at the District 10-2A tournament and qualified six entries for regional competition. The Region II-2A tournament will be played Wednesday- Thursday, May 8-9 at Richland Tennis Center in North Richland Hills.
A positive atmosphere greeted members of the Shackelford CountyYouth and Livestock Show Association at their annual meeting held Tuesday, April 16, according to board president Bronco Askew, “The money spent on renovations to the stock show barn paid off substantially,” Askew said.
The Shackelford County Rural Fire Department is sponsoring a brisket fundraiser Sunday, April 28 at the county fire barn, 623 Railroad St. beginning at 11:00 a.m.
The20thannualSpring Health Fair sponsored by Shackelford County ResourceCare is set for Friday, May 3, at the Bank Park. Booths from about 15 area agencies will be set up to provide fun for local youngsters while also handing out information about the services and support available to local residents.
Albany’s Classic Car Showwasoneofseveralcasualties of severe weather on Saturday, with the event cancelled well in advance so that participants and visitors could adjust their plans. Robert Snyder and other organizers of the annual show made the call on Thursday afternoon, April 18, citing that chances of rain on Saturday were forecast at 100%.
Extension services for Shackelford and Throckmorton counties will present a third cattle management workshop at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, May 2 at Bellah Cattle Company.
