By Donnie A. Lucas

The Lady Lion volleyball team added two more victories last week with a non-district match in Coleman, returning home Saturday to host Moran.

Albany also played Woodson here on Tuesday, picking up another district win 25-29, 25-12, 25-7. Details were not available at press time but will be printed next week.

The first round of district games will wrap up on Saturday with Albany playing in Ranger. The varsity game is now set for 4:00 p.m. because of an SAT exam that morning. There will be no JV game.

The varsity will be on the road next Tuesday in Strawn to start the second round of the district race. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.

Albany won in three sets 27-25, 25-18, 25-20 in Coleman last Tuesday, Sept. 24.

“We started out slow, but were able to fight back and win 27-25,” coach M.J. Reneau said. “We made some adjustments to our lineup and recorded 34 kills. We focused on transitioning faster between plays, which allowed us to play better defense.”

The Lady Lions hosted Moran on Saturday, earning a 25-15, 25-7, 25-15 win to improve to 13-11 for the season including a 3-1 district mark.

“The girls were able to spread the ball around so all our hitters recorded kills,” Reneau said. “After a long week of homecoming activities, I was pleased with our energy and excitement throughout the game. It is our goal to keep that level of play going through the second half of district.”

She added that there were a couple of long rallies the Lady Lions were able to win.

“Moran was really scrappy on defense, and we had to respond,” she said.

JV Wins in Coleman

Both JV teams won in Coleman last week, with the Red JV posting a 25-19, 25-13 win.

“I thought the girls did a great job of communicating on the court,” coach Jamie Wilson said. “We had a lot of great serves, and we put the ball down well.”

The JV White team also won in Coleman, 25-15, 25-6.

“The girls came out in full force,” Wilson said. “They did a great job on the defensive side, and we had some really great serves.”

The JV was idle on Saturday and Tuesday since Moran and Woodson did not have JV teams to put on the floor.
