The Lady Lion volleyball team is firmly in second place in the District 6-2A race with just two games remaining in the regular season.

Albany suffered a second loss to Hawley last week, but rebounded on Tuesday with a win in Moran 25-14, 25-9, 25-27, 25-3 to improve to 8-2 in district. Details of the game will be reported next week.

The local team will travel to Woodson on Friday, Oct. 25 for a 4:30 p.m. game, followed by the regular season finale at home next Tuesday against Ranger starting at 6:15 p.m.

Albany is already guaranteed a second place finish in district in the 2A division, which will result in a bye at the bi-district round of playoffs. Albany will meet Miles for the area playoff on Saturday, Nov. 9. The location and time are still being determined.

The Lady Lions played a nail biter in Hawley on Oct. 15, losing in five sets 21-25, 25-22, 28-26, 18-25, 12-15.

“The girls gave it all they had and fought so hard,” coach M.J. Vickers said. “This was the best game I have seen the girls play all season. I was able to see so much improvement from the beginning of the season, and we are peaking just before the playoffs.”

The coach commended the team for pushing themselves both mentally and physically.

“I loved the chances the girls took at the end of the match and how they stayed aggressive at the net even when the games were close,” she said. “I am so proud of the way they played and with the effort they gave.”

JV Teams Win

Both JV teams won matches in Hawley last week.

The JV Red picked up a 25-16, 25-19 win over Hawley.

“It was a great win for the JV, with a lot of teamwork,” coach Jamie Wilson said. “I think that it was one of our best games, with the girls clicking on all cylinders.”

The win moved the JV Red to a 16-6 season record, including 5-0 in district.

The JV White also won in Hawley, 25-20, 25-19.

“This was this team’s last game, and they did a great job,” Wilson said. “It was a big win against a good Hawley team.”

The coach was pleased with the improvement she saw in the team over the season.

“I hope the girls stick with the passion they have for the game,” said Wilson.
