The Lady Bulldogs avenged their earlier first round loss to Newcastle last week, but later fell to both Hawley and Albany for the second times this season to stand 3-8 in district play, with only one match remaining in the regular season.

The middle school team played Newcastle on Tuesday, and traveled to Hawley for tournament action on Saturday. Results from the junior high’s match with Albany on Tuesday were not available at press time and will be reported next week.

Varsity vs. Newcastle

The Lady Bulldogs used a home court advantage to beat Newcastle in three sets 26-24, 25-22, 25-19.

“We came out ready to play,” said coach Jo Hise. “We played hard each play and fought until the whistle blew.”

Offensive standouts for Moran were November Meredith with seven points in both the first and third sets, and Dariann Hawley with nine points in the second game.

Varsity vs. Hawley

Moran lost to the Lady Bearcats in Hawley 17-25, 9-25, 12-25 on Oct. 19.

“We played hard, but the points just didn’t end in our favor,” said the coach. “We struggled to finish points, even though the girls worked well as a team to save several wild balls and get them over the net.”

Varsity vs. Albany

The 2-A Lions defeated the Lady Bulldogs 25-14, 25-9, 25-27, 25-3 in Moran on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Junior High Girls

The visiting Newcastle Lady Bobcats slapped down the junior high Lady Bulldogs in two sets 25-19, 25-12 last Tuesday.

The middle school team participated in the Hawley tournament on Saturday.

“Our first game was against Clyde 7th grade, and we took them to three sets,” said Hise. “We keep learning more each week.”

Vivalee Green scored seven points in a row leading Moran to victory in the first set, but Clyde volleyed back to claim the second and third 25-20, 8-25, 10-15.

The second round in the tourney was with Hawley’s 7th graders.

“We played very close sets, but came up short,” said Hise.

Hawley took the bout 25-18, 25-19.

Moran’s offense was led by Brooke Orsak who earned nine points, including two aces in the first set, and by Cassandra Mendez, who scored five points in the second set.

Schedule

Moran has a bye this Saturday, and will finish out the regular season with two games in Woodson starting at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
