HUGH LOWE

Hugh Frank Lowe, of Albany, passed away July 6, 2021 at Hendrick Medical Center. 

He was born Aug. 16, 1933 in Palo Pinto to Lester and Wilma Couger Lowe. At the age of six, he moved to Albany with his mom and stepdad Talbert Crow. He attended Albany schools and graduated from AHS in 1950. 

After graduation, he worked for Marshall R. Young Oil Company and Gore Drilling Company before entering the U.S. Army on May 25, 1954. 

SHIRLEY HALE

Shirley Hale, age 78 of Whitney, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2021. Graveside funeral services were held Wednesday, July 7, at the Albany Cemetery. Interment followed under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. 

Shirley Jean Evans was born Dec. 16, 1942 in Abilene, Texas to Malcolm Cecil “Jack” Evans and Clara Belle “Jane” Perkins Evans. She married Marvin Lee Hale in Lubbock, Texas on March 16, 1977 at the home of Justice of the Peace, Pam Gentry. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Albany.

MARSHA  WHITEHEAD

Marsha Ann Ledbetter Sievers Whitehead, born in Abilene, Texas on April 26, 1948 to Oran Harrell and Nell Jean Ledbetter, passed away on June 29, 2021. Graveside services were held at the Albany Cemetery Thursday, July 1, under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Marsha graduated from Albany High School in 1966 and then attended Cisco Junior College where she performed with the Wrangler Belles. 

After college, she worked for Van Operating in Albany for several years. Marsha moved to the Fort Worth metroplex and made her home there for the past 33 years.

Carlton Lee  Edgar

Carlton Lee Edgar, 81, of Moran, Texas, passed from this life on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 in Abilene.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 27, 2021 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Larry Briley officiating.  Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, TX 79606.

Carlton was born on March 6, 1940 in Gorman, Texas to Carl (Skinny) and Ethel (Smith) Edgar. 

WILLIAM HOWARD STRICKLAND

William Howard Strickland, age 94 of Moran, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2021. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 24 at Moran Cemetery with Jeff Pleasant officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

William Howard Strickland was born June 6, 1927 in Ibex, Texas to Tommie Lee Strickland and Ilene Terry Strickland. He attended school in Oklahoma and later enlisted in the military. 

GLENDA BANISTER

Glenda Clarice Banister, 79, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. 

Glenda was born on June 29, 1941, in Hillsboro, Texas to Horace and Annie Bell Johnston. She grew up in Albany, Texas and was a member of the graduating class of Albany High School in 1959.

BLAKE HAMILTON

Blake Ryan Hamilton, age 18 of Denver City, passed away Friday, June 11, 2021. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 19 at Gunsight Baptist Church with Patrick Frishe and Sonny McCauley officiating. Interment will follow in the Post Oak Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. 

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Friday, June 18 at Morehart Mortuary.

Shirley Mae Welch Caldwell

Shirley Mae Welch Caldwell, was born June 23, 1935, to Vernon Wade (“V.W.”) and Mable Karr Welch in Blairstown, Missouri where VW was Superintendent of Schools. When she was nine, Shirley and her family moved to Adrian, Missouri with younger sister Ada Ruth, who survives her.

A private family burial for Shirley Welch Caldwell of Albany is planned at Alpine on Saturday, June 5. Tentatively, a memorial service at the Aztec Theater is set for Monday, June 7 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a meal at the Old Jail Art Center. A complete obituary will be printed June 10.

Mary Powers

 Mary Elizabeth Powers was born March 7, 1938, and she went to be with the Lord Jesus on Monday, May 24, 2021. She was 83 years old. 

Mary had been living with her granddaughter, April Rodgers, in New Braunfels, Texas since January of 2021. She was laid to rest at Northlawn Memorial Gardens in Dumas, Texas, on Saturday, May 29.

Mary was born at home in the country to Ellis and Carrie Tatum; the third of sixteen grandchildren of Ben and Mollie Dillingham. She was raised in Albany and Friona, Texas.
