Melanie Dawn Mitchell, 54, of Albany, TX passed away on Nov. 30, 2022.

Melanie was born on Jan. 28, 1968, to Eugene Edward Mitchell and Sharon Midkiff Mitchell in Gorman, TX. Melanie was baptized at Moran First Baptist Church.

She attended Moran School and graduated from Albany Jr./Sr. High School. She went on to study at Texas A&M University where she majored in pre-veterinary science and minored in “social studies” also known as “partying.”

She later served in the U.S. Navy with honor and distinction for three years during Operation Desert Storm. She loved her country and proudly served as an anti-nuclear warfare submarine technician. She was subsequently honorably discharged due to Gulf War Syndrome that resulted in living out the remainder of her life as a disabled veteran.

Melanie is survived by her mother, Sharon Mitchell; two older sisters, Sheryl Mitchell Scott and Sharla Mitchell; as well as a younger brother, Chance Mitchell. Three nieces: Hailey Owen, Autumn Owen Clark, and Sierra Scott Robertson. Two nephews: Tanner Scott and Hunter Owen.

Melanie had several hobbies that included: riding her Harley, playing her guitar and listening to music, hunting and fishing, watching sports as an avid hockey fan, spending time outdoors with her fur babies, and her favorite pastime was “cooking like Martha Stewart.”

Melanie was best known for her quick-witted humor, being ornery as she could be, fierce determination, generous spirit, and her love for animals. Melanie was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Mitchell, as well as her grandparents Llano and Minnie Mae Hearn Mitchell of Moran, and Frank and Clara Overby Midkiff of Moran. She is survived by the absolute loves of her life – her four fur babies – Boston Terriers Momma Clara, Romey & Rooster as well as her Chihuahua Venus.

A Celebration of Life was held at Happy Wife Happy Life Events Venue (999 FM 1084 Albany, TX) on Dec. 5, 2022.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Boston Terrier Rescue of North Texas (texansbostons.com) or your favorite animal charity in honor of her love for all animals. PD
