Vernon LaVerrel Floyd Dennis Pittman passed into the arms of Jesus on Dec. 16, 2022 at 1:00 a.m., in the presence of her loving daughter Ginger Dennis Locker at Redstone Park Assisted Living in Brownwood, Texas.

She was born July 6, 1922 on a farm in Fisher County, Texas, the seventh of 10 children. Parents were John Aaron Nelson Floyd and Maude Elizabeth Kersch Floyd. LaVerrel graduated from Roby High School in 1939. She was hired by the County Judge as a receptionist. When WWII broke out, the judge hired her to be the Chief Operating Officer of the Office of Price Administration in charge of all rationing in Fisher County, often an unpopular job, but LaVerrel was competent and honest and did the job well.

She married Herbert Dixon Dennis (Dickie) in 1943 while he was home on leave from the Coast Guard for his Grandfather Jim Dennis’s funeral. After the war ended, they settled in Albany, Texas where they ranched and operated D and D Dry Goods. Two daughters were born to the marriage. Virginia Elizabeth (Ginger) was born in 1946 and Karron LaVerrel was born in 1949. Dickie and LaVerrel were members of the First Baptist Church where Dickie served as a deacon. Dickie died of melanoma cancer in 1963, leaving LaVerrel with two teen aged daughters to raise, a store to run, and a ranch to pay off, which she did.

LaVerrel married T.C. Pittman in 1968. After selling the store, they lived on her ranch where they raised cattle and quarter horses. LaVerrel and T.C. were married for 44 years. After his death, LaVerrel continued to live on her beloved ranch until age 99-1/2. She loved to fish in the two ponds on either side of her ranch house and play dominoes with her grandchildren and friends. Her family celebrated her 100th birthday at her ranch home in July 2022 with 60 nieces, nephews and their families attending.

LaVerrel is survived by her daughter Ginger and husband Brad Locker, daughter Karron and husband Dan Crenwelge. Grandchildren are Ty Locker, Tim Locker and wife Julie, Amy Ellis and husband Jorge, Chad Dennis Locker and wife Meredith, Katrina Ward and husband Rusty, and Susanna Kelly and husband Timmie. Great Grandchildren are Major Ellis, Canon Ellis, and Aidan Ellis, Nate Locker, Chance Locker, Ella Locker, Blake Locker, Melody Locker and Zane Locker, and Vivian (Vivi) Ward. LaVerrel’s little dog, Lucky, now lives happily with Karron and Dan. Special thanks to Whitby George, Betty George Anderson, and Sylvia Arreola. Their friendship and care enabled LaVerrel to stay in her home as long as she did. Brownwood caregivers Shirley, Jennifer, Cheryl, and Tiffany were heroes in her last days.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Albany, Texas.
