Volunteers originally planned to begin the transformation of J.R. and Tricia Reyes’ recently purchased storage building into a comfortable, although tiny home last Saturday, but inclement weather delayed the start of the project.

Friendship to host revival

Revival services will take place at Friendship Baptist Church starting this Sunday, Sept. 16, at 10:55 a.m. Regular Sunday School classes will be held at the usual time of 10:00 a.m., and then the 10:55 a.m. service will be led by guest speaker Lance Bingham.

The third annual Shifters Truck Show is set for Saturday, Sept. 22, and everyone is invited to come downtown and peer into the past reflected in polished chrome on vintage trucks in the competition, as well as those on display in the Flying A Car Museum and nearby streets.

Local exhibitors win at Odessa, West Texas Fair

Hattie Braly won reserve breed champion at the Permian Basin Fair in Odessa last Sunday, Sept. 9, with her Angus steer, while other county youth exhibitors recently competed in Abilene at the West Texas Fair and Rodeo with goats and heifers.

Lions struggle with tough opponents

Coach Denney Faith wasn’t necessarily pleased with the Lions’ 26-20 loss in Dublin last Friday, but he was happy with the way his team continued to fight to the end of the water-logged battle. “I loved the way our kids fought,” he said afterwards.

Girls win district opener

After opening the district race with a win on the road on Saturday, the Lady Lion volleyball team lost their second league game on Tuesday against the visiting Newcastle Lady Bobcats. The District 6-2A race will continue Saturday in Hawley against the Lady Bearcats.

Kiwanis golf benefit set this Friday

The 11th Annual Albany Kiwanis Charity/John Rose & Jim Law Memorial Golf Tournament and Fajita Fiesta will take place at the Albany Golf Course this Friday, Sept. 14. Money raised from participants and sponsors will help fund the Albany K Charity Scholarship Fund.

5th Quarter to be held at Feed Store

First Christian Church and Beltway East are hosting “Fifth Quarter” this Friday, Sept. 14 after the end of the Lions’ varsity football game against the Eastland Mavericks. Chicken sandwiches, chips, cookies, and drinks will be served to students who attend.

Runners medal in Eula, Coleman

By Melinda L. Lucas Albany runners have competed in their first two cross country meets of the season, with a couple of competitors medaling in the junior high boys division. Isaiah Carrillo took eighth out of 106 runners at Eula with a time of 8:01 on the 1.

Lady Cubs open season

The Lady Cubs opened the season at home on Monday, with the A teams splitting games with Abilene Christian Middle Schools. The B team played Newcastle on Tuesday, but results were not available at press time. Albany will host Hawley next Monday, Sept. 17 in two games starting at 4:30 p.m.
