The Lady Cubs opened the season at home on Monday, with the A teams splitting games with Abilene Christian Middle Schools.

The B team played Newcastle on Tuesday, but results were not available at press time.

Albany will host Hawley next Monday, Sept. 17 in two games starting at 4:30 p.m., then go to ACMS Tuesday, Sept. 18 for matches at 4:00 p.m.

The 7A girls beat ACMS in straight sets this week, 25-16, 25-13.

Robin Lucas was high scorer with 12 points including two aces, followed by Kiana Roberson 6, Sidney Russell 3, Braylyn Abbate with 3, Brooklyn Abbate 2, and Ashlyn Holson 2.

“The girls had a great first game to open the season with a win,” coach Ginger Norton said.

The 8A girls lost in three sets to ACMS, 23-25, 25-14, 7-15.

Scoring on serves were Gracie Price 7, Ella Webb 6, Presley Green 2, Briley Tabor 5, Haily Cox 7, and Brooke Kayga 6.

Offensive standouts were Price, Webb, Green, and Cox, according to coach Sara Wilson, who cited Tabor, Kayga, and Chelsy Parsons on defense.

“The girls did a good job overall,” Wilson said. “Our serving and serve-receive will improve with more playing time.”
