Local exhibitors win at Odessa, West Texas Fair

Hattie Braly won reserve breed champion at the Permian Basin Fair in Odessa last Sunday, Sept. 9, with her Angus steer, while other county youth exhibitors recently competed in Abilene at the West Texas Fair and Rodeo with goats and heifers.

“Johnnie Hise entered five clothing items in the Youth Clothing Division at the WTF&R,” said county agent Michaela Bradford. “Johnnie is a very talented young lady. She has created some really impressive clothing for a freshman in high school.”

The WTF&R runs from Sept. 7-16 at the Taylor County Expo Center. Results are listed below for classes that have already been placed. 

Junior Heifers

Hereford heifer, class 3 – 8. Gracie Price.

ORB heifer, class 3 – 1. Gracie Price, 3. Gracie Price.

Youth Meat Goats

Class 1 – 2. Paisley Clark; Class 2 – 8. Cache Clark; Class 5 – 3. Conner Clark; Class 9 – 1. Conner Clark, 10. Paisley Clark; Class 10 – 3. Brayden Sullivan.

Also showing goats in Abilene were Devan Henson and Ryder Wilkins.

Upcoming Events

Several Shackelford County youth were entered in the Calf Scramble at the fair on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Local ag students also have steers that will compete over the next few days, and one exhibitor has an animal entered in the pig show. Those results will be reported next week.

Online enrollment for 4-H members must be renewed every year using 4-H Connect. Fees are $20 by Oct. 31, or $25 on or after Nov. 1. Adult volunteers should also re-new their registration every year.
