The Albany Lions closed out the pre-district portion of their schedule on Saturday with a 50-14 loss to The Brook Hill Guard in Bullard, dropping the team to 0-5 on the season.

The Lady Lion volleyball team closed out the first half of district action by splitting games last week to drop to fourth place with a 3-3 record.
Albany opened the second round of District 6-2A with a victory over Strawn on Tuesday, 25-9, 25-22, 25-9.
The Albany High School class of 1988 will host the fourth annual Junior Garcia Memorial Golf Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the local golf course, starting at 8:00 a.m., with proceeds going to help support local charities and scholarships for local graduates.
The eighth grade Lady Cubs traveled to Woodson on Sept. 25, bringing home a win.
The team was the only squad to play last week. The 7A girls played Strawn on Tuesday, but results were not available at press time.
Two of the junior high girls teams will host Hawley on Monday, Oct.
The JV Lions football team remains undefeated after a 40-0 shutout over the visiting Roscoe Plowboys last Thursday.
The JV Lions will be the only team taking the field this week, picking up a bout against Winters JV at Robert Nail Stadium on Thursday (today). Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
Several hundred runners were expected at the Albany Golf Course as the Big Country East FCA hosted a local cross country meet for a couple of hours on Wednesday.
Results from the meet were not available at press time and will be reported next week.
The Albany Cubs picked up a pair of victories last Thursday over Roscoe, both winning games at Robert Nail Stadium by a score of 28-0.
Both teams will be off this week, along with the varsity team. The JV Lions will play the lone game on Thursday starting at 5:00 p.m.
The varsity Bulldogs lost a close football game last week when they hosted the Strawn JV for a Thursday evening dog fight.
“We lost a close one to the Strawn JV, 38-44,” said Moran head coach Harley Ethridge.
Photo packets taken of junior high football and volleyball players by The Albany News arrived this week and are ready for pickup.
High school players and all cheerleaders who haven’t picked up their packages can also stop by the News office.
The Lady Lions evened out their district record with a win over Moran on Saturday, and traveled to Woodson on Tuesday.
Albany came home with a 25-21, 25-19, 25-14 win over Woodson improving the district mark to 3-2.
