AJHS girls to play in Graham tourney Oct. 13

The Lady Cubs dropped all three matches against the visiting Hawley Bearcats on Monday at the local gyms.

The 7A and 8A teams will play in the Graham tournament on Saturday, and two squads will travel to Wylie on Monday, Oct. 15 for games at 5:45 p.m. in two different gyms.

One team will make the trip to Moran on Tuesday, Oct. 16 for a match there at 5:00 p.m.

The season will end on Monday, Oct. 22 with Albany hosting Ranger for two games.

The eighth grade girls lost 18-25, 22-25 to Hawley on Monday.

“This match could have gone either way,” coach Sara Wilson said. “I thought we played well for the most part, but we had too many passing errors in the second set.”

She added that the team is improving overall.

Scoring on serves were Gracie Price 5, Ella Webb 6, Presley Green 6, Briley Tabor 4, Hailey Cox 1, and Brooke Kayga 2.

Standouts named by the coach were Presley Green and Gracie Price on offense, along with Briley Tabor on defense.

The 7A team lost in three sets to Hawley, 23-25, 27-25, 6-15.

“We fell short, missing more serves than usual,” coach Ginger Norton said. “The girls have improved on transitioning into position.”

Scoring on serves were Ashlyn Holson 7, Robin Lucas 6, Braylyn Abbate 5, Sidney Russell 3, and  Callan Edgar 3.

The 7B team fell in three sets too, 20-25, 25-20, 16-18.

Scoring on serves were Jaci Chapman 10, Ashley Sanchez 10, Cambree Clegg 6, Kaedyn Nowell 5, and Maci Hatchett 1.
