JV Lions remain undefeated with shutout

The JV Lion football team remained perfect for the season with a 6-0 record after handing the visiting Winters Blizzards a 32-0 shutout last Thursday.

The JV has an open date this week since Baird does not have a JV team. Albany’s JV will return to the gridiron on Oct. 18 to host the Roscoe Plowboys in their first district game.

The Lions stopped the Blizzards’ opening drive when Cooper Fairchild recovered a fumble. Brooks Neece ran the ball around the right side for a 15-yard touchdown, followed by a two-point conversion by Robert Bailey.

In the second quarter, Neece scored again on a 14-yard run. Cade Neve hit Neece with the two-point pass to bump the lead to 16-0.

On Winters’ next series, Neece blocked and recovered a punt to set up the third tally. Bailey got the touchdown on a 12-yard carry, with Everett McWhorter catching the two-point pass from Neve for the conversion.

Bailey also ran the final touchdown in from 17 yards out. Cooper Fair-child caught the two-point pass from Neve to end the scoring at 32-0.

“We moved the ball well on offense,” coach David Fairchild said. “Our line dominated up front and our backs ran hard.”

The coach also praised the defensive efforts of the team.

“We played good defense throughout the game, but the most impressive thing was a goal line stand where we held them for four plays at our two-yard line,” he said.

Named as standouts were Monte Cauble, Christian Morales, Malachi Gueldner, Rylan Roberson, Brodey Jones, and Taren Farmer.
