Band to compete Monday

The Albany High School Ragin’ Red band will compete at the UIL East Zone Region 6 Marching Contest at Wylie Bulldog Stadium in Abilene on Monday, Oct. 22. The competition begins at 2:45 p.m., with the Albany group’s performance scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

Feed Store seeks new ministers

Levi and Ashlee Herron recently resigned from their positions as youth ministers at The Feed Store, and the local youth ministry is hoping to continue offering as many of the regular events as possible in spite of the vacancy.

Trunk or Treat moved to Fall Fest date

The annual Trunk or Treat sponsored by the Albany Ministerial Alliance will take place at Nancy Smith Elementary School in conjunction with the PTO Fall Fest on Saturday, Oct. 27 this year, a change from the traditional Wednesday evening gathering by the Bank Park.

Closet Angels adds Monday hours

Closet Angels, a local clothing ministry, is run by volunteers, and once again director Lori Reames has adjusted the hours that the ministry will be open to the public in order to try and best accommodate both shoppers and the work staff. The facility will now close at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Volunteers needed for annual Fall Fest

All parents of students attending Albany schools are requested to volunteer and help with the annual Parent-Teacher Organization’s Fall Fest next weekend, and local room mothers are working with coordinator Malarie Sutton to finalize plans for the fundraising event.

Golf club sets 2018 meeting

In spite of all the recent rain, as of press time on Tuesday the Albany Golf Club annual membership meeting and Championship Golf Tournament is still set to take place as planned at the local golf course this weekend, Oct. 20 and 21.

Long time Albany resident J.M. Moore was honored as a distinguished alumni by the Cisco College Wrangler Belles during their performance in Cisco during halftime of the college’s Homecoming game with Trinity Valley Community College on Sept. 30.

Jr. Garcia fundraiser set Saturday

Weather permitting, the fourth annual Jr. Garcia Memorial Golf Tournament will take place this Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Albany Golf Course, and a few morning tee times are still available.

AHS students join bass association

Albany High students Max Balliew and Riley Green, accompanied by adult boat captain Jerry Green, spent Saturday, Oct. 6 at Lake Granbury where the two anglers fished in the season opening tournament of the West Division of the Texas High School Bass Association.

Rain doesn’t stop Gala enthusiasts

An enthusiastic but smaller than normal group enjoyed the 15th annual Friends of Fort Griffin Gala Saturday night at the “Flat” on the Collins Creek Ranch. The Gala, held the second weekend of October each year, is sponsored by Friends of Fort Griffin as a fundraiser.
