Feed Store seeks new ministers

Levi and Ashlee Herron recently resigned from their positions as youth ministers at The Feed Store, and the local youth ministry is hoping to continue offering as many of the regular events as possible in spite of the vacancy.

“Tuesday lunches are still in full force,” said Feed Store director Tisha Wilkins. “MMPC has us covered this month, and coach (Paul) Johnston, with FCA and Friendship Baptist will be here next month. We are so excited to have a new group join us.”

A regular meeting of the ministry’s board of directors took place on Wednesday, Oct. 17, and although details were not available at press time, it was expected that the vacant youth minister position and the upcoming Running Man activity would be two of the main topics.

“I’m pretty sure that we will have Running Man,” said Wilkins on Monday. “We should know after the meeting. Meantime, I am trying to hone in on a speaker who can explain the game and emcee the instructions to the participants.”

Merge did not take place this past Monday night, but Wilkins did welcome high school students to The Feed Store to play board games and enjoy hot chocolate.

“It wasn’t the normal Merge, but it was something to keep the doors open and offer the youth a place to be,” said Wilkins. “Junior high students have been meeting for Connect twice a month. We will discuss that scheduling, also.”

Information from the board meeting will be shared when it becomes available.

The Herrons started working at The Feed Store on Aug. 3, 2017, and after 14 months, they recently resigned in order to have more time to be at home with their children.

“We have loved our time here and couldn’t be more thankful for the lifelong relationships we’ve developed with these students,” said Ashlee Herron. “However, our first ministry is to our growing family. Our littles need and deserve all of us right now, and with the nature of youth ministry being mostly evenings and late nights, we aren’t able to give them that here.”

The family has moved to Eastland where Levi Herron has returned to his previous career with Brookshire’s.
