Jr. Garcia fundraiser set Saturday

Weather permitting, the fourth annual Jr. Garcia Memorial Golf Tournament will take place this Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Albany Golf Course, and a few morning tee times are still available.

Proceeds from the tournament, meal, and auctions are used to help support local charities and scholarships for local graduates.

Entry fees are $300 per team for the four-person best ball golf scramble, with tee times at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. However, all of the afternoon tee times have been claimed.

“If we get rained out, I guess we will reschedule the tournament,” said organizer James Sanders. “But we’ve already bought the food, so we plan to have the fajita dinner regardless.”

The dinner is included in the golf entry fee, and others are encouraged to join in the evening meal and fun for $20 per ticket, said Sanders.

Matt Stapp, Wade Montgomery, and Kasey Cauble are scheduled to provide live music.

Items donated to the auction include a Bob Lilly autographed jersey and a book he also autographed, a large framed photograph of Watt Matthews, and several handcrafted wood items, some of which were made by prisoners at the Robertson Unit, where Jr. Garcia worked.

“Officer Misty Hopkins arranged for those items to be donated to us,” Sanders said.

Sponsorships are available at several levels and include a single hole sponsor for $150, $300 for a team, $400 to sponsor a golf team and a hole, or $1,500 for a Silver Sponsorship.

The Garcia Memorial is an official 501c3 non-profit organization, so donations are tax deductible.

“The funds that we raise are used to support local charities and provide graduating seniors with scholarships,” Sanders said. “We have given approximately $30,000 in scholarships to AHS seniors.”

Auction and raffle items are still being accepted.
