Albany ISD is already preparing for its upcoming board election on May 4, while the Fort Griffin Special Utilities District directors were meeting on Wednesday, March 6 to consider options for their contested race. AISD administrative assistant Lynsi Musselman said Monday that registered voters in the district can begin requesting mail ballots now.

ProjectGraduationconducted its third fundraiser of the spring on Sunday, March 3, serving takeout lunches at The Feed Store. “Sunday went great, and we sold out in about an hour and a half,” coorganizer Tisha Wilkins said.

The Albany Lions opened the 2024 baseball season by winning four games, three of them at the Hawley/Anson Woody Tourney. The Lions will host the Albany Varsity Tournament Thursday-Saturday,March7-9.

The Albany Little Dribblers Association wrapped up its 2024 season Saturday, March 2 with two teams going undefeated. Red went 8-0 to top the girls standings with Gray going 8-0 in the boys division.

The Albany Lions and Lady Lions track teams make their second outing of the season Thursday, March 7 (today) at Cisco. The track teams will next compete Saturday, March 16 at Graham’s Possum Kingdom Relays.

Albany’s Myleigh Leveridge competed in her first golf tournament of the spring Monday, March 4 at the Eula tournament at Shady Oaks Golf Course. On Wednesday, March 6, the Albany boys played in the Millsap tournament at Lipan’s Sugar Tree Golf Club.

Albany’s Sidney Russell claimed her second tournament title of the spring Monday, March 4, winning the girls singles draw at Vernon. The Albany tennis program will be off through spring break, returning to action Thursday, March 28 at Abilene High.

Albany’s Lady Lions defeated Sweetwater JV 10-1 on Tuesday, Feb. 27 in the softball team’s last outing until late March.

For the second time in three years, Albany’s Joshua Dyer made his first home run of the season a big one. The blast came Saturday, March 2 in Dyer’s first appearance of the season.
