BothboyscoachRodBritting and girls coach Lauren Peacock said they look for their athletes to build on performances from last week’s opening meet at Anson.

“The second meet is a chance to continue to get in shape and get our legs under us,” Britting said. “Honestly, I think kids are alittlebitflatterthesecondmeet becausethey’restillgettingused totheworkoutroutine.Ifwecan hit some good marks and clean things up, that’s our main goal.”

Adam Hill will once again be held out of the hurdles races because of a knee issue.

Britting said some athletes could compete in different events from the first meet.

“Sometimes we’ll run overdistance one week and two sprints the next week to work ondifferentphasesofthegame,” hesaid.“Rightnow,we’retrying to figure out who’s going to be doing what.”

Peacockfacestheissueofathletes missing the meet because of other obligations.

“I’ll have a few less because of the band trip and one gone to a stock show,” Peacock said. “My two runners,Avery Everitt andAshlyn Miller, will be on the same track they’ve been on.”

Everitt, a junior who has qualified for area twice, finished fourth in both hurdles races at Anson.

“Avery was a little disappointed in her first 100 hurdle race, but she’s been working hard,” Peacock said.

Miller, afreshmanwhoqualified for regional cross country in the fall, was second in both the 400 and 800 last week.

“Ashlyn is training in the 800 the first few meets, and I’m ready to see how she does with one under her belt,” Peacock said. “I think she has a better idea of what’s expected.”
