Albany High School will celebrate Homecoming Friday, Oct. 2, with a downtown parade, presentation of class and organization royalty, and the crowning of the 2026 Homecoming King and Queen during halftime of the football game between the Albany Lions and Cross Plains Buffaloes.

Lady Lions Find Early District Momentum

Albany’s Lady Lions opened District 8-2A play with two victories, defeating Roscoe in four sets at home before sweeping TLCA on the road. The varsity girls defeated Roscoe 24-26, 25-14, 25-12, 25-19 on Sept. 22 before traveling to TLCA for a 25-8, 25-7, 25-6 victory on Saturday.

James Cody Leech, 51, of Albany, Texas, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 1st at Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in the Albany Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

William Jack Pilcher, 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 31, 2026. He was born to Bill and Rosa Pilcher in De Leon, Texas. On December 4, 1954, Jack married Nadine Vandivere. They had two girls, Kathyleen and Rebecca.

Jamey Collinsworth, 65, passed away September 16, 2026. He was born in Albany, Tx., attending Albany and Moran schools through high school. He went on to graduate from Texas A&M University in 1983. Jamey married Charlotte Perryman in Baird, Tx, on March 17, 1984.
