The Lady Lion softball team split games against district teams last week, beating a Class 1A opponent while losing to a 2A contender. The district is mixed this season with a combination of both 1A and 2A schools, but teams in each classification will go separate ways when it comes to the playoffs.

The Albany track teams are hosting a high school track meet today, and as of press time, volunteers were still needed to help run the concession stand. Tracksters, coaches, parents, and fans from eight area schools are visiting in Albany today, and many of those will eat at the concession stand.

Two Albany High School golfers competed in the first round of the district golf tournament Monday at Maxwell Municipal Golf Course in Abilene. Both local athletes were entered as medalists because there are not enough players for a team.

Albany tennis players hosted five other schools in a practice meet here last Wednesday, March 20 in preparation for  tournament action this week and the district competition April 2-3.

Albany High 2018 graduate Reyna Garcia got her first hit as a college softball player just a couple of weeks ago, and it was one that she will probably always remember. It was not Garcia’s first time at the plate as a member of the War Hawks.

The seventh grade boys and eighth grade girls teams both brought home third place finishes from the Eastland track meet last Friday, while the other two squads finished in fourth place. The Cubs and Lady Cubs hosted a meet on Monday, but results were not available at press time.

Moran varsity teams and JV boys competed at the Blackwell Hornet Relays on Friday, March 22, and Kobee Lapp led the Bulldogs to fifth place overall with 53.5 points. Paint Rock won the meet with 143 points.

The District 20-1A University Interscholastic League Academic Meet took place at Eula on Tuesday, March 26, and several students from Moran were among the competitors. Results were not available at press time and will be reported next week.

Afternoon golf scrambles will start next week on Wednesday, April 3 at the Albany Municipal Golf Course, according to Albany Golf Club representative James Waters.
