AJHS teams earn medals at Eastland track meet
The seventh grade boys and eighth grade girls teams both brought home third place finishes from the Eastland track meet last Friday, while the other two squads finished in fourth place.
The Cubs and Lady Cubs hosted a meet on Monday, but results were not available at press time.
The junior high will travel to Roscoe for the district meet on Thursday, April 11.
The eighth grade girls racked up 106 points for third behind Cisco and Breckenridge.
“I was very pleased with the girls’ performances in each event,” coach Ginger Norton said. “Everyone dropped their times in both individual events and relays. We only had 11 girls compete, with Brylee Moore our top scorer with 27 points.”
Boys coach Ryder Peacock commended the seventh grade boys for also earning third as a team with 89 points.
“The seventh graders continue to get better in several events,” he said. “We scored some big points in the triple jump, pole vault, and shot put. We also did well in the short sprints, along with Lute Wheeler’s strong effort in the distance races.”
The eighth grade boys scored 95 points for fourth place behind Cisco, Breckenridge, and Eastland.
“We had some big performances from Cole Chapman, who took home four medals,” Peacock said. “Isaiah Carrillo continued to dominate the 400 meter run, with Samuel Rosas getting silver in the 800, and our mile relay ran well.”
The seventh grade girls earned 96 points to finish fourth behind Eastland, Breckenridge, and Cisco.
“We were one of the smaller teams there, so I was proud of the effort the girls showed,” coach Kimberly Hill said. “The girls did what was asked of them, even when it hurt a little, improving times to place in the top three in 10 events.”
