AHS golfers to play 2nd round

Two Albany High School golfers competed in the first round of the district golf tournament Monday at Maxwell Municipal Golf Course in Abilene.

Both local athletes were entered as medalists because there are not enough players for a team.

The top two medalists from the district meet, if they are not already on a winning team, advance to the regional tournament, as do all members of the top two teams.

Albany junior Alayna Koemel recorded an 18-hole total of 119 and at the end of the first round is in second place as a medalist, according to golf coach Tate Thompson.

In the boys division, freshman Cooper Fair-child shot 116.

They will be in action again next Monday, April 1 for the second and final round of district play, also to be played at Maxwell.

“The two-day total will decide who advances,” said Thompson.

The regional golf tournament in Odessa is scheduled April 22-25.
