The Albany Ministerial Alliance is sponsoring a free community concert by the band Dawson Hollow, starting at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 18 at the Bank Park.
Free hot dogs will be served during the event.
Albany Ministerial Alliance president Jeff Turner said he was contacted recently to see if the local community would be interested in a concert.

Local residents who are looking for an opportunity to volunteer may want to consider Closet Angels, the local clothing ministry.
Organizers of the group are hoping to expand the number of volunteers at the organization in preparation for expected new growth.
Closet Angels director Lori Reames said extra help is needed in several different areas, including social media.

Blanton Belcher was named as the 2021 Top Hand at the Shackelford County Youth and Livestock Association Buyer-Seller Reception hels Saturday, April 10 at the Feed Store.
Belcher and Addie Beth Denton were announced as the winners of the annual SCYLA Scholarships in the amount of $500 each.
“We had a pretty good turnout Saturday night,” said SCYLA president Bronco Askew. “Last year threw us a little off track due to COVID, so we weren’t really sure if we would get to have an event, and if we did, what it would look like.”

When Brittany Berry DVM was still at Texas A&M, Dr. Keelan Lewis came and spoke to one of her third year classes.
“I remember thinking I wanted to be like her after I heard her speak to our class,” said Berry.
The next year, when Berry was starting to look for an opportunity to begin her career as a veterinarian, she heard there was an opening with Dr. Lewis in Olney, and the rest is now history.
Berry joined Lewis’s practice, Salt Creek Veterinary Hospital, where she is now a partner.

Sophomore Cole Chapman advanced to the regional track and field meet in three events on Tuesday, with five other Lions and Lady Lions moving on as well during the area meet for field events on Tuesday.
Originally, both field and running events were scheduled for all day on Wednesday in Graham, but organizers moved field events up by one day to Tuesday due to concerns about rain that was in the forecast.

The Albany High School varsity tennis team earned a clean sweep of champions at the district tournament, advancing nine players to the regional meet later this month in all five divisions.
Tennis coach Sara Wilson commented that this is the first time in her 21 years of coaching, and possibly ever, that Albany has won first place in every category.
In addition, Albany won team titles in both the girls and boys divisions, as well as the overall district title.
The last overall team championship was in 2018, said Wilson.

The Lion baseball team stayed in sole possession of first place in District 8-2A thanks to three wins over the last week, in addition to the news that Stamford defeated Anson this week to give the Tigers a second loss.
Albany (13-3-1, 7-0) is still going into what previously had was thought to be an unofficial district championship game in Anson on Friday, but even a win by the Tigers would not knock the Lions out of first place.
“We would have to lose two of our last three games to go to a tie for first,” coach David Fairchild said.

Local FFA and 4-H members are staying active this spring, but already preparing for stock show season.
4-H Horse Clinic
The 4-H horse clinic will be held Saturday, April 24 where the focus will be on teaching members the basics of horse polo.
This clinic will be conducted “on-horse” beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Lazy 3 Ranch and horses will be provided.
Ear Tag Deadlines

For the first time in well over a decade, an Albany boys golf team will advance to the regional tournament after winning first place at the district meet last week.
A freshman-dominated team led by Lute Wheeler put together its best two-round total of the year at Maxwell Municipal Golf Course April 6-7, defeating the second place team by 71 strokes.

The Lady Lion softball team picked up a couple of non-district games last week to fill an open week in the schedule, splitting games with former district foes.
Albany traveled to Hamlin on April 6, bringing home an 8-0 win. However, the Lady Lions lost a game to Hawley 12-1 last Friday.
District 8-2A action picked up again for the Lady Lions on Tuesday, with Albany on the road in Baird to earn a 19-0 win that pushed the team to a 6-1 district mark and 12-10 overall.
