CC runners place at meet

A trio of cross country runners placed at a meet in Hamlin on Sept. 23, continuing to improve their times.

The Albany High School cross country team will travel to Seymour next Wednesday, Oct. 7 for the next meet.

Brylee Moore took 13th place at the Hamlin meet with a time of 14:23. Maci Hachett finished 17th with a time of 14:48, while Briley Tabor ran a time of 14:50 for 19th place.

Bulldogs come up short against Lingleville

Moran Homecoming is Friday, Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. against the Three Way Braves.

“With all the normal distractions of homecoming, the guys have been extra focused on the task at hand,” said Moran ISD athletic director John Hughes. “Friday will be a challenge against Three Way, but if the guys do their jobs, we should hopefully get into the win column.”

Last Friday, the Moran Bulldogs came up short in the end against Lingleville, losing in a high scoring game of 59 to 70.

Defense holds Haskell to less than 10 yds.

Racking up almost 500 yards of offense while holding the Haskell Indians to just six yards of offense, the Albany Lions got right back on the winning track last Friday with a 43-0 win in Haskell.

Albany (3-1) will be on the road again this week in Anson to play the Tigers (3-1), who are coming off a big loss to Hamlin, similar to the loss Albany suffered at the hands of the Pipers the week before.

Tickets are available for Friday night’s game only at the Albany superintendent’s office – $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Lady Lions undefeated in district play

The Lady Lion volleyball team split games last week, but the game they won was critically important.

Albany lost in three sets to the visiting 4A Graham Lady Blue, but defeated district rival Hawley in four sets on Saturday to lead the 2A bracket of District 6-2A.

The Lady Lions were on the road Tuesday in Rising Star, finishing the first half of play against district teams with a 25-1, 25-4, 25-5 win. Complete results will be printed next week.

JV Lions undefeated at 3-0

The JV Lion football team improved to 3-0 for the season with a 28-0 shutout of the Haskell Indians last Thursday in their first home game of the season.

The JV will host Anson this Thursday (today) at about 6:30 p.m. after the two junior high games 

Albany churned out the offense behind the protection of the line.

“I was very pleased with our offensive line,” coach David Fairchild said. “I also saw a lot of second-effort blocking down the field.”

Cubs to host Anson today for 2 games

The eighth grade Cubs posted a 46-0 win over Haskell last Thursday in the first home game of the season.

The seventh grade got to scrimmage for one quarter against Haskell’s combined team, since the Indians didn’t have a separate seventh grade team to put on the field.

The Cubs will play two full games at home on Thursday (today) against the visiting Anson Tiger Cubs, starting at 4:00 p.m. for the seventh graders. The eighth grade will play at about 5:00 p.m.

Jr. high girls to host Ranger

The seventh grade volleyball team traveled to Hico on Monday, earning a win in two sets.

The eighth grade girls played Tuesday evening at Rising Star, but results of the game were not available at press time. 

Albany will host a full set of junior high volleyball games on Tuesday, Sept. 29 against Ranger. The seventh grade will start the action at 4:30 p.m., followed by the eighth grade at 5:30 p.m. Both games will be played in the old gym.

The Lady Cubs brought home a 25-7, 25-8 victory from Hico.

Bulldogs to play in Lingleville

The Moran Bulldogs suffered another loss against non-conference Blackwell on Friday, Sept. 18.

The Bulldogs scored 16 points in the first quarter to start the game but ended up losing 16-64.

Moran is on the road this Friday, Sept. 25 against Lingleville at 7:30 p.m.

Both teams are 0-4.

The junior high team will play at home against Lingleville on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 6:00 p.m.

Lions regroup after tough pre-district loss to Hamlin

The Lion offense didn’t have many chances to score against the visiting Hamlin Pipers last Friday because Hamlin’s defense was just too much for Albany to handle, giving the Lions their first loss of the season 42-6.

Albany (2-1) will play their first road game this Friday, making the trip to Haskell to play the Indians (1-2) with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.

Albany fans are able to purchase tickets online in advance by using the TicketLeap website (haskell-cisd.ticketleap.com/haskellsports). Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Lady Lions continue successful season

The Lady Lion volleyball team picked up three more wins last week to extend its winning streak to 12-1, including a 1-0 district mark.

Albany hosted Class 4A Graham on Tuesday, falling to the Lady Blues in three sets, 14-25,11-25,16-25, to suffer just their second loss of the season. Details will be reported next week.

The Lady Lions will return to District 6-2A action on Saturday, hosting the Hawley Lady Bearcats beginning at noon. The JV II will start the action at 10:00 a.m., followed by the JV I team at 11:00 a.m.
