Each year Ford selects 10 FFA members from across the entire state of Texas as Leadership Scholars, and this year Albany High student Seth Hale was among the winners. Applicants must be juniors in high school when they apply in January and must have met the requirements of the Lone Star Degree.

A community-wide clean-up day, promoted annually by the Chamber of Commerce, has been scheduled for Saturday, June 15.

The community of Albany is invited to attend the Albany ISD retiree reception, which will honor retiring Albany ISD staff members Danita Johnston, Lavelle Vinson, Karen Martin, and Debra Overton. The reception will take place on Thursday, May 23, at 2:30 p.m.

The annual Father’s Day golf tournament, hosted by the Albany Golf Club, is questionable at this time. Increased rain during recent weeks has impacted the state of the course, leading to speculation that the two-day event may not take place.

The Albany Softball Association will have a meeting on Monday, May 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Shackelford County library. “We will be electing board members,” said president Cynthia Smith. “The public is encouraged to attend and join the meeting!

Staff members at Fort Griffin State Historical Site have scheduled an outdoor cooking event on Saturday, May 25, and it includes a chance for visitors to sample typical trail driver cuisine.

The Albany High School class of 2019 is invited to a decades-long church tradition, the senior Bible presentation at the First Baptist Church of Albany on Sunday, May 19 starting at 2:00 p.m.

Jeff and Ricia Pleasant of Albany are pleased to announce the engagement and upcoming wedding of their son, Jordan Rick Pleasant to Madison Lynn Chaney, daughter of Gary and Samantha Chaney of Abilene.
