A community-wide clean-up day, promoted annually by the Chamber of Commerce, has been scheduled for Saturday, June 15.

All citizens of the community are encouraged to come out and help work on projects aimed at beautifying the town of Albany, and the annual clean-up day is a good way for many people to get volunteer hours.

“Those who would like to volunteer can meet at the Depot at 8:00 a.m.,” said Chamber manager Mary Beth Jones.

Many projects have been completed during this day in previous years, including things such as removing debris from walking paths, cleaning up roads, preparing a domino room for seniors, and many other things that help to make the town of Albany more appealing.

“Our project this year will be working on the Fandangle routes, and we are going to try hard to clean them up so that they look nice when the show starts,” said Jones.

Volunteers are also encouraged to bring any equipments or supplies that they have, whether it be weed eaters, chainsaws, or lawnmowers.

“Bring what you have that you think may be of use,” said Jones.

The greater number of volunteers who show up, the more amount of projects that can be completed on the day.

“We want everyone to come out, volunteer, and spend the day helping so we can make our town look spiffy and clean,” said Jones. “It is important to make our town look nice for the summer season when we attract a lot of visitors.”

Jones wants everyone to know that if they have a need that can be met by the volunteers, they should contact the Chamber of Commerce.

“If there are any elderly people who live along the Fandangle routes and have areas in their yard that need cleaning up, we will try and meet their needs if we have enough volunteers,” said Jones. “Just contact the Chamber and let us know what you need done.”
