Hale named Leadership Scholar

Each year Ford selects 10 FFA members from across the entire state of Texas as Leadership Scholars, and this year Albany High student Seth Hale was among the winners.

Applicants must be juniors in high school when they apply in January and must have met the requirements of the Lone Star Degree. They should also be highly motivated students with a deep interest in the topic of leadership.

The criteria for selection of the winners is based upon the six leadership characteristics of action, relationships, vision, character, awareness, and continuous improvement.

The selection committee evaluates the applications, and the students’ performances on an examination covering a leadership book to narrow the field.

Hale was one of 22 finalist selected to participate in a day-long interview conducted by a panel of six judges in Austin on Friday, May 24, and at the end of the day Hale was announced as one of the 10 winners.

According to Ford, the purpose of the program is to: 1) Identify students who exhibit high levels of leadership at the FFA chapter level. 2) Engage these identified students in a leadership development program created to enhance those qualities of leadership. 3) Recognize the Scholars to build a remarkable legacy for the future of the state and nation.

Leadership Training

The Scholars will participate in a week-long training seminar prior to state FFA convention.

Each Scholar will be assigned a mentor who will assist the Scholar in developing and completing a substantial and sustainable community service capstone project next fall.

The projects will be evaluated, and Scholars who successfully complete their projects will be recognized on stage at the State FFA Convention and receive a $1,000 scholarship.

“Seth would love input about what is needed for his community service project,” said his mother, Aimee Hale.
