Retiring local educators to be honored

The community of Albany is invited to attend the Albany ISD retiree reception, which will honor retiring Albany ISD staff members Danita Johnston, Lavelle Vinson, Karen Martin, and Debra Overton.

The reception will take place on Thursday, May 23, at 2:30 p.m. in the foyer of Nancy Smith Elementary School, and all are invited.

Guests may come and go from the reception as they please.

Danita Johnston has taught at Albany for 29 years, where she instructed business and English classes at the secondary campus.

Lavelle Vinson has spent 17 of her 33 years as a teacher in Albany.

During those 17 years, she has taught third grade and fourth grade, and she has spent time as a reading specialist.

Karen Martin has been a schoolteacher for a total of 29 years, and she has spent 15 of those in Albany, where she taught third grade.

Debra Overton worked as a school bus driver and cafeteria monitor for Albany for nine years.

She had previously driven a bus for Breckenridge ISD.
