Cubs bring home 1 win, 1 tie

The Albany Cubs came home with a win and a tie against the Haskell Warriors last Thursday.

Games were moved to Graham’s artificial turf stadium after local heavy rains soaked Nail Stadium.

The seventh graders will play a rematch against Haskell on Thursday (today) starting at 4:00 p.m. in Haskell.

The eighth grade Cubs will travel to Hamlin for a 5:00 p.m. game as scheduled. Hamlin only has one junior high team, causing coaches to seek out another seventh grade game to end the season.

Football season ends prematurely with forfeit by Trent

The Moran football season ended earlier than anticipated last week due to last Friday’s 66-80 loss on the road to Loraine ending the varsity’s playoff hopes, and a forfeit by Trent cancelling what had been scheduled as the Bulldogs’ final regular season game and senior night at Bulldog Stadium this Friday.

In addition, the junior high game that is on the calendar for this evening in Trent has been cancelled because the junior high Bulldogs picked up a game with Trent middle school on Oct. 18.

But the win locked the Lions into the District 7-2A playoff picture with two more games remaining in the regular season.

Albany will travel to Haskell this week for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff in Indian Stadium.

Haskell is entering the fray with a 1-2 district record, with hopes of hanging on to the possibility of a playoff spot.

“My girls accomplished so many things this season, including making it to the playoffs,” said coach Dakota Fowler. “By doing that, they definitely proved themselves. Moran has not been to the playoffs in 24 years.”

JV keeps record clean with 24-0 win

The JV Lions had to travel to Roscoe last week, but didn’t play the Plowboys.

Roscoe has canceled the remainder of its JV schedule due to low numbers of players, but the Lions met the Post Antelopes’ JV on the Plowboys artificial turf field, remaining perfect for the season with a 24-0 win.

Improving to 7-0 for the season, Albany mounted a long campaign to score on a three-yard run by Brooks Neece. The Lions also scored on the two-point play on a pass from Cade Neve to Neece.
