The JV Lion football wrapped up the season with a win in Hamlin last Thursday, finishing the year with a perfect 9-0 record.

Albany came out on top of a 20-14 battle.

The Lions’ first score came on a 12-yard pass from Cooper Fairchild to Everett McWhorter, followed by a two-point pass from Fairchild to Brooks Neece.

Neece later recorded a 31-yard touchdown run to push the Lions ahead 14-0. The two-point attempt failed.

Albany scored the final tally on a two-yard run by Robert Bailey for the win. The conversion attempt failed.

“Defensively, we played a great game,” coach David Fairchild said. “Hamlin had a good offensive line and a big quarterback, but we rallied to play a good game, making four crucial interceptions.”

Luke Ivy picked off two of the Hamlin passes, with his second interception sealing the win for the Lions. William Webb and Neece came up with the other two.

The coach named Christian Morales, Ryan Mark, Brodey Jones, Fairchild, Devan Henson, Monte Cauble, and Bryce Asher as standouts, along with linebackers Taren Farmer and Neece.

“On offense, Cooper Fairchild did a great job of controlling the offense, and backs Brooks Neece and Robert Bailey both ran hard,” the coach said. “Our offensive line also had another great game, including Ryan Mark, Ty Everitt, Monte Cauble, Bryce Asher, Devan Henson, and Riley Green.”

The coach commended the team for going undefeated.

“This was a big win and great way to end an undefeated season for these guys,” Fairchild said. “These kids work hard and there is a bright future ahead for them.”
