Lady Bulldogs play Rotan Nov. 10

The Lady Bulldogs lost their first basketball game of the season 10-48 to the visiting Rotan Yellowhammers last Saturday, Nov. 10, but coach Dakota Fowler was proud of how her team played, especially since they have not had much opportunity to practice.

“Last Monday was the first day that my girls had a chance to pick up a basketball, and this was our first game,” said Fowler. “Because we made the playoffs in volleyball, and all but two of my girls were on that team, it put us back on practicing basketball.”

The Lady Bulldogs were unable to fill a varsity basketball team last year, so they can not rely on seasoned returning veterans either.

“This is a rebuild season,” said the coach. “We only have eight players, so it makes it hard to practice to our fullest potential. However, we have a varsity team for the first time in two years, and I can’t wait to see what this team will accomplish.”

Scoring for the Lady ’Dawgs on Saturday were Dariann Hawley 4, Johnnie Hise 3, and November Meredith 3.

The varsity girls hosted Blanket for a 6:00 p.m. match on Tuesday, Nov. 13. Results were not available at press time.

The Lady Bulldogs have two games scheduled over the Thanksgiving break. Monday, Nov. 19, they travel to Munday for a 6:00 p.m. bout, and the following day, Tuesday, Nov. 20, they host Woodson at 6:00 p.m.

The junior high teams split games in Gordon, with the girls losing their first bout of the year, while the junior high Bulldogs brought back a 34-17 win.

“Braxton Ethridge scored 32 points and Danny O’Keefe scored 2,” said coach Matthew Hise. “The team played well for their first game.”

Both Moran junior high teams will play in the Woodson Tournament this Saturday, Nov. 17.

The girls will take on Albany’s Lady Cubs at 10:40 a.m. for their first game, while the boys’ first bout with the Paint Creek Pirates is scheduled for 12:00 noon. Woodson will also be in the tourney.

The junior high teams do not have games scheduled over Thanksgiving, but take to the court again on Monday, Nov. 26 in Ranger for two games starting with the girls at 6:00 p.m. and the boys following at 7:00 p.m.

Moran’s varsity boys first basketball game of the year won’t take place until after the Thanksgiving break, when the Bulldogs travel to Gustine for a 7:30 p.m. match with the Tigers on Tuesday, Nov. 27.
