JV wants to keep record unblemished with final game

Improving to 8-0 for the season, the JV Lions traveled to Graham to host the Haskell Indians last Thursday due to field conditions in Albany after heavy rains, earning a 42-0 victory.

The JV will be on the road to Hamlin this week to end the season against the Hamlin Pied Pipers. The JV will follow one junior high game, with kickoff at about 6:15 p.m. in Hamlin.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Lions started their scoring spree with a an eight-yard touchdown run by Robert Bailey. They led 6-0 after the PAT failed.

Later in the quarter, the Lions were faced with a fourth down and four yards to go from 41 yards out. Quarterback Cooper Fairchild hit Everett McWhorter with a 35-yard pass to give Albany a first and goal. Bailey scored on a five-yard run, followed by a pass from Fairchild to Brooks Neece to give the Lions a 14-0 lead.

Bailey picked off a Haskell pass on the Indians’ next possession, returning the ball 67 yards to the goal for a touchdown. Neece scored the two-point conversion on a run to push the lead to 22-0 at the half.

Neece also scored on a 16-yard run in the third quarter. The PAT failed.

Picking off another Haskell pass, McWhorter returned the ball 60 yards for the tally, with Fairchild passing to Luke Ivy for the conversion and a 36-0 lead.

Bailey got the call for the final touchdown on a seven-yard run, with the two-point attempt failing to end the scoring at 42-0.

“Our offensive line had another big night ,” coach David Fairchild said. “Our backs ran hard and Cooper ran the offense well.”

Offensive linemen named by the coach were Bryce Asher, Riley Green, Ty Everitt, Devan Henson, Monte Cauble, and Ryan Mark.

“Defensively, we had a great game with McWhorter, Bailey, Mark, Brodey Jones, and Neece all having big plays for us.”
