The Albany Cubs went separate directions last Thursday to end the regular season, splitting games against different opponents.

The eighth grade team traveled to Hamlin for their finale, bringing home a 36-0 rout to finish the season with a 6-1-2 record.

“This was an excellent year for the guys,” coach Richard Sullivan said. “They showed a vast amount of improvement and growth each week as the season progressed. Their goal was to improve, and they did just that.”

Caden Price scored on runs of 52 yards and 36 yards to put two touchdowns on the board. The first conversion attempt failed, but Samuel Rosas ran in the second two-pointer to put the Cubs ahead 14-0.

London Fuentes ran in the third tally from 10 yards out, followed by a conversion run by Price.

Rosas scored on a 62-yard run later in the game, bringing the lead to 28-0.

Price returned a fumble 27 yards for the final touchdown. The conversion was completed on a pass from Isaiah Carrillo to Clay Green to end the game at 36-0.

Offensive standouts were Price, Cole Chapman, Andrew Leverton, Carrillo, and Fuentes.

The coach named Rosas, Koy Cauble, Coy Knight, and Miles McCoy on defense.

The seventh grade Cubs traveled to Haskell last Thursday for a rematch against the Warriors, falling 12-8 to end the season with a 7-1-1 record.

“This was a tough game because we had just played Haskell the week before,” coach Ryder Peacock said. “Both teams were aware of what the other wanted to do.”

The Cubs allowed Haskell to score on a punt return, but got on the board on the next drive.

Cason Fairchild connected with Houston Heatly for a touchdown, then Fairchild hit Adam Hill with the two-point pass to go ahead 8-6.

Haskell scored again to go up 12-8 with three minutes remaining in the game.

The Cubs marched down to the Haskell five-yard line as time ran out.

“The guys had a great season,” Peacock said. “We played some tough teams throughout the season and did a lot of great things on both sides of the ball.”

The coach said that the team has a bright future.
