The Lady Lion basektball team got off to a successful start last week with a pair of wins, both at home.

The team went on the road Tuesday to play Abilene Christian High School in Abilene, earning another win 50-30.

The varsity will be in action again on Saturday in Snyder with a 6:00 p.m. tip off following a 5:00 p.m. junior varsity game.

Albany will return home to host the Munday Lady Moguls on Tuesday, Nov. 20.

The Lady Lions opened the season with a 52-25 over Gordon on Nov. 6. Scoring for Albany were Torie Fuentes 4, Jillian Guinn 11, Alli Hill 6, Jaleigh Morales 15, and Elia Hebel 14.

The Albany girls hosted Newcastle on Saturday, earning a 54-45 victory.

“We were very short-handed with some of the girls gone and some sick or injured,” coach Tate Thompson said. “Newcastle is a good basketball team who beat us by 30 last year, and they only lost one player for this season. Our girls fought through some pain and being dog tired, and I am very proud of their ability to overcome.”

The coach said he is excited for the team’s prospects.

Scorers were Fuentes 16, Guinn 2, Hill 10, Cydney Nelson 8, and Morales 23.

Morales was again picked as offensive standout, while Fuentes was selected for defense.
