Rangers qualify for state tournament

The Hubbard Creek Rangers, the combined Albany-Breckenridge Intermediate All-Star team, qualified for the Texas West State Little League Tournament by sweeping Southeast Arlington in the Texas West Section 2 series earlier this month.

The Rangers defeated Southeast Arlinton 19-3 on Saturday, July 2, and 20-2 on Sunday, July 3 at Garland’s Rocker B Ranch complex.

Albany players on the team are Graham Ceder, Clay Chapman, Colter Edgar, and Aiden Vickers.

HAROLD DON BROOKS

 

Harold Don Brooks died on July 5, 2022 at the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home in Big Spring, Texas. He was born on Aug. 10, 1930 in Moran, Texas to Claude C. Brooks and Irma Garrett Brooks.

The family moved to Midland in 1944, where he attended junior high school and later to McCamey where he attended senior high.

LACY ROOP

 

Lacy Roop, age 65 of Breckenridge, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2022. Graveside funeral services were held Wednesday, July 6 in the Albany Cemetery. Interment followed under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Lacy Dinsmoor was born on April 30, 1957 to parents, Arthur Henderson Dinsmoor and JoAnne Rose Dinsmoor in Albany, Texas. She attended school in Albany but later graduated from Midland High School in 1975. After graduation, she attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University College of Pharmacy and later Texas Tech University. In 1979,

Sam Conway, age 81 of Albany, passed away Monday, July 4, 2022. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 10 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Turner officiating. Interment followed in the Albany Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Sam Edward Conway was born Sept. 14, 1940 in Tampa, Florida to Archie James Conway and Mary Miranda Livingston Conway. Sam worked for Coca Cola for 37 years in Tampa until he retired in 1995.

BONNIE TEN CATE

 

Bonnie Ten Cate, age 65 of Moran, passed away Sunday, Jul. 10, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 a.m., Friday, Jul. 15 at Bethel Assembly. Interment will follow in the Albany Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, Jul. 14 at Morehart Mortuary of Albany.

Bonnie Michelle Alexander was born on Dec. 21, 1956 to William Alfred Alexander and Betty Jean McKee Alexander in Albany, Texas. She grew up in Albany and later graduated from Albany High School.

THOMAS HENDERSON

Thomas ‘Poppy’ Henderson was born Sept. 9, 1943, in Brownfield, TX to Jackson and Cliffie Mae Henderson. Thomas passed away on July 3, 2022.

Thomas was a 1962 graduate of Albany High School. Thomas loved his family deeply. He enjoyed camping, riding four-wheelers and dirt bikes, shooting guns and giving everyone a hard time. Thomas was a hard-working man; he and Ann owned their business H&H Automotive. He later retired from Wagner after 34 years of service.  The family will hold a private memorial service.

Johnny Davis, Sr.

 

Johnny Lee Davis, Sr., age 74 of Albany, passed away Thursday, Jun. 30, 2022 after a brief battle with AMML leukemia. Graveside funeral services were held Saturday, Jul. 9 at Albany Cemetery pavilion with Chris Beard officiating. Interment followed under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

EOC scores above state average

Albany High School students scored above state averages in all five tested subject areas, according to results recently issued for the STAAR End-Of-Course  tests by the Texas Education Agency.

The tests were given in March for both English I and English II and in May for Algebra I, Biology, and U.S. History.

Students are required to pass all five tests to meet graduation requirements.

STAAR test scores for grades 3-8 have not been made official by TEA yet, although a release date is expected as soon as July 1.

Fandangle wraps up 2022 season with 2 sell-out shows

That’s a wrap, as they say.

The props, costumes and paraphernalia for the 84th anniversary edition of the Fort Griffin Fandangle have been packed up and stored away, marking the end of another successful season, according organizers.

Both Saturday night performances of the historic show have been reported as being sold out, although the final button hasn’t been pushed to tally all ticket sales.

Camp Time!

ResourceCare’s 24th year of Summer Day Camp kicks off a two-week run Monday, July 11.

“We’re expecting to have a great time,” Resource Care’s Mindy Ary said.

Day Camp is free to all registered children from age 3 and potty trained to sixth grade.

Ary said the campers are fairly equal among the different ages.

“Our numbers are pretty spread out from 3-year-olds through sixth grade,” she said.

Ary said campers will receive camp t-shirts the first day.
