By Nolan Davis Albany’s 7on7 football team recently traveled to College Station, where they competed in the state tournament. The two-day event on June 27-28 saw teams from across the state face off to crown the state champion 7on7 team.

By Nolan Davis The Albany Lions football schedule had to undergo some changes after Baird dropped down to six-man football. With Baird out of the district lineup, the only remaining teams in District 7-2A Division II are Albany, Cross Plains, Haskell, Roscoe Collegiate, and Hamlin.

By Donnie A. Lucas Albany’s 10U and 12U Little League All-Star teams picked up wins in the first two rounds of bracket play in the District 5 All-Stars Tournament. Both teams started bracket games on Saturday, continuing Sunday despite a rain delay for one of the teams.

By Nolan Davis The Albany 7on7 team is looking to win big as they compete in the state tournament today and tomorrow in College Station. The team qualified for the state level after going 3-0 in a qualifying tournament June 7 in Archer City.

By Donnie A. Lucas Both Albany Little League All-Star teams got off to a good start with a pair of wins on Monday against Haskell to open the District 5 tournament. Albany’s 10U team defeated the visiting Haskell team 19-1, while the 12U team put together a 5-0 victory in the first pool game.

By Donnie A. Lucas Accolades continued to come in for members of the 2019 Albany High School baseball team that advanced to the state tournament last month. The Texas High School Coaches Association hosted its annual All-Star game last Saturday at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.

By Nolan Davis Albany’s 7on7 team members continue to compete and hone their skills as they prepare for the state tournament in College Station on June 27 and 28. The local team recently competed in a qualifying tournament in Abilene on June 14.

Several Albany Lion baseball players received All-District honors for their regular season performances, including senior Joshua Dyer being named the District 8-2A MVP. Three other Albany players were given superlative honors among the four 2A schools in the district.

What started as a dead-even pitching duel through four innings ended with the defending state champion Big Sandy Wildcats breaking the deadlock with three runs in the fifth on their way to 4-1 win and a third consecutive appearance in the Class 2A final last week at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
