Only a few cases of influenza have been seen at the local clinics so far this winter, and according to Jera Fairley from the Shackelford County Heath Clinic, the patients that tested positive for influenza at that clinic all had one important thing in common.

Levi Cole Britting and Kaitlyn Brooke Reddin of Albany are listed on the Dean’s List for the 2018 Fall semester at Angelo State University. To be eligible for the ASU Dean’s List, full-time undergraduate students must maintain a 3.25 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

First Baptist Church’s youth group and Jesus and Me (JAM) kids will both meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. this spring, a few minutes later than in the fall. The time was changed so that all Wednesday night sessions would begin and end at the same times.

For the fourth year in a row, trainers, owners, and highly skilled hunting dogs from across Texas and surrounding states are expected to travel to the Crooked Tree Ranch in Shackelford County for the Region 7 American Field Trial Clubs of America (AFTCA) Amateur All-Age Championship and the M.G.

A very short meeting of the Shackelford County commissioners last week resulted in very little action except for a decision to leave the county-wide burn ban intact despite recent precipitation.

Parents and students alike are reminded of the importance of school attendance not only to provide each child with the highest level of instruction possible, but also due to the Texas Compulsory Attendance Law.

The two-week Christmas break will end and students and staff of Albany High School, Albany Junior High School, and Nancy Smith Elementary School will be back in class on Tuesday, Jan. 8 to start the second semester and the fourth sixth weeks of the 2018-2019 school year.

The Albany Ministerial Alliance spent almost $12,000 in support of various local needs by the end of 2018. “We believe that all these expenditures help make Albany a better place for everyone in the community,” said Alliance treasurer Carolyn Waller.

Local fifth and sixth graders who signed up for local youth basketball teams have started practicing in preparation for the first tournament of the season on Jan. 12.

Contributions are needed for the Shackelford County Youth Livestock show, with the annual show set to be held over a three-day period Jan. 31-Feb. 2, less than one month away.  Donations of $12,600 were deposited in the bank as of Wednesday morning, according to Molly Cauble.
