Chamber membership meeting set

The Albany Chamber of Commerce’s annual membership meeting, normally scheduled on the first Friday of February, is being delayed until the second week because of a conflict with the county stock show.

Chamber manager Mary Beth Jones said this week that the traditional  membership session will take place at the Beehive Restaurant on Friday, Feb. 8 immediately after the noon luncheon.

Several of the current directors have asked to be replaced and there are others whose terms are expiring this year, said Jones.

“Some of the ones whose terms are expiring are willing to keep serving, but I fully expect a few to go off,” she added.

Sam Snead, Austin Sherwood, and Gayle Mikeska have all indicated that they need to be replaced, and Shane Fields, who is now working out of town, has been unable to attend the weekly luncheons.

In addition, Levi Herron, who was elected to a three-year term last year, has moved from Albany.

Other terms that are expiring this year include Justin Winters and Doyleen Terrell.

Terrell resigned several months ago because of personal reasons, as did Diana Nail, Treca Edington, and Megan Lively. Winters plans to continue serving if reelected.

“We’re definitely going to need some new volunteers to be able to accomplish the things that are planned this year,” said Jones, “including our new Wild West Days on April 27 that will be a full day of family fun.”

She added that the board hopes to get more families involved as Chamber members, not just businesses.

Other Chamber directors currently serving on the board are Ramby Anderson, Lisa Barton, Robert Dacus, Jana Kitchens, and Randall Palmore.
