Montgomery conducts last session

A very short meeting of the Shackelford County commissioners last week resulted in very little action except for a decision to leave the county-wide burn ban intact despite recent precipitation.

The session was the final one for outgoing county judge Ross Montgomery, who is retiring after 24 years of service.

Bob Skelton, who was sworn in on Jan. 1, will conduct the next meeting to be held on Monday, Jan. 14 at 9:00 a.m.

Burn Ban Renewed

With an abundance of vegetation growth from earlier moisture, now dormant and dried out, commissioners felt that wildfire danger is still high, even though there was a significant rainfall event last week.

The only other motion during the 18-minute session, except for okaying the minutes and bills, was to approve the November treasurer’s report without discussion.

Because the Courthouse had been closed on the usual Monday meeting date due to the holiday schedule, the elected officials convened instead on Thursday morning, Dec. 27.
